Naming Your Web 2.0: English or Vietnamese?
Picking your web 2.0 service name
could be a tricky task. Many chose Vietnamese as they thought local
communities could understand more easy. Some gone with English words for
cool and fresh meaning to young users. Web startups in other Asian
countries face the same naming dilemma. Top social networking services
in Asia succeeded with names in English: Cyworld = cyber + world, Mixi = mix + I. Yahoo360 is
the absolute leader in social networking services in Vietnam now with Cyworld is gaining
strong position in social network/virtual world. When using Vietnamese
words, you could face phonetic problems such as www.chodientu.vn (means E-market),
sound pattern is not good with three drop tone syllables, even some
competitors call it "electronic dog" as cho (market) could be
spelled as cho (dog) without high tone. The owner of www.choviet.com (Vietnam market)
changed its name to ishopping.vn
to avoid misunderstanding. Young web users with good knowledge of
English prefer something cool, it is easier to find a cool name in
English than Vietnamese. However if you could find out a really cool
Vietnamese one it will rock your world.

Web Service Brand Names Me Too
I came across an M&A brokerage service website sanmuabandoanhnghiep.com , I was confused who they are and what they doing. Two months ago, two similar names went online: muabandoanhnghiep.com and muabancongty.com. All in the same business, M&A brokerage, and even guys in finance industry hardly recognize who is who. Following the success of forum yeuamnhac.com, yeu pre-fix (meaning love) became hot with yeunhatky, yeublog (blog services) and other yeu-MeToo. Look to television business, media planners and buyers had to be careful with name of Vietnamese TV channels: VTV, VTC, VCTV, HTV, HTVC, HCATV, HAVC. An MC on a VTC program said goodbye to audience "Thanks for watching VCTV program".
Among millions names on the Internet, how your Me Too name could stand out since your service did not have killer features.
