Should Shareholders Love FPT's CEO Spending Time Blogging?
I just came
across a newly setup blog of Truong Gia
Binh, CEO of FPT. The blog is
being run on a bad platform without RSS, trackback features. It seems
that Binh did not have strategy and positioning for his blog. He is
trying to communicate that he is still young in mind to lead FPT into a
new era. But as the CEO of the largest ICT company listed on Vietnam
Stock Market he should be careful since blogging is high risk for CEO. Almost top CEOs in the world
avoid blogging as it is not easy to control the outcome and time
consuming to answer so many comments (some unfavour comments could make
them unhappy). A successful CEO blogger is Jonathan Schwartz of Sun
Microsystems, his blog was planned in detail before making public. With
clear strategy he could add value to the communication with staff,
shareholders, clients, developers. In my post on FPT 2.0 I did not mention CEO blogging
for risky reason, but if FPT management wants to join blogosphere they
should create a position of CBO (chief blogging officer) or C20 (chief
two point oh officer) to manage blogging and social media communication.
However you, as the shareholders of FPT want to see them spending time
chatting online?

Can FPT 2.0 Boost Its Share Price?
At the Investors
Conference held in HCMC recently, Vietnam’s largest ICT corporation FPT
presented FPT 2.0 Transformation. Based on Web 2.0 and Flat World
buzzwords, FPT is trying to convince investors that its core competency
is still IT services after diversifying into real estate, financial and
banking services. So what is FPT 2.0? It is a flat organization with
customer centric, and 22,000 employees in 2010. How FPT can manage such
a large number of employees while even Google had a difficult task of keeping 12,000 employees as flat organization. Following new
web business trends is popular among top ICT corporations including
Microsoft, Cisco, IBM, Nokia. However FPT lacks talents to put its
transforming plan into action. In response to FPT grand plan, FPT share
price tumbled more than 10%. In order to get back investor confidence,
FPT can take some actions:
- Join IBM and Wipro to have presence in Second Life. It would be the first Vietnamese company to open a virtual innovation center along with international IT giants.
- FPT Capital, its investment arm, should act as corporate VC division to invest into young innovative companies in Vietnam and abroad (after the model of Intel Capital, Siemens Venture Capital, Legend Capital...)

iShare - Indian Model Can Work in Vietnam
The leading India
portal Rediff have launched iShare, a
multimedia sharing site = YouTube + Flickr + Last.fm. This combination
model seems fit into the large portal's expansion roadmap. Some online
service companies in Vietnam are busy building big data centers and why
not an option for the iShare equivalent. Instead of single service of
sharing only video/music/photo, they can utilize the DC for the all in
one services. FPT
Online is quietly testing the file sharing Xiklo and rumors on
Vinagame's music sharing/social networking services arise, who could be
the next to make the iShare.portal.vn
