In my personal opinion, it takes a creative push to make blog platforms
like Wordpress to get into mainstream market and compete successfully
with Yahoo!360 in Vietnam.
I was quite passionate about a few blog platforms including Wordpress
and always wondered why Yahoo!360 was the dominant platform among
Vietnamese. After a while, I found out a few important facts:
1. Vietnamese Web 2.0 activities are mainly extension of chatting
network in terms of contents and target readers. Yahoo!360 capitalizes
on YM user base, reuses YM contacts and advertises directly on YM,
creating a strong network effect among users.
2. Vietnamese readers rarely use any bookmarking or RSS feed readers and
blog rolls, making automatic blog rolling of Yahoo!360 a killer feature.
Other types of blogs are often forgotten or rarely accessed.
3. Vietnamese bloggers are often not very sophisticated, thus quite
satisfied with what Y!360 offers.
This doesn't mean that Y!360 will not be challenged, but I want to
emphasize that just rely on blog platform is not enough to make
Wordpress-based ideas successful. I would love to see the day young
Vietnamese people using Wordpress.

Yahoo360 is a sort of SN service rather than blogging, many guys now
maintain both Yahoo360 and WP. If you need something formal go with WP.
Launch a WP blog service you will not compete directly with Yahoo360.
I'm using wordpress and 360 too. It's belong the community, many
vietnamese use Y!M to contact their friends, so Yahoo360 success on
making them feel a friendly environment. You can image, all vietnamese i
know use Y!M, so if i use a new blog such as Yobanbe, they will ask me
why don't use Y!360 and why they must register for few steps and etc.
it's the reason why cyworld or yobanbe still not dominate the vietnamese
community.
So, now i use 360 for some personal entry ... usual entry is about my
life, my day, my love or etc. and use wordpress for pro community like
designer or my counter strike fans (They just need to read my articles).
Nice Spirit, as I said Y360 is a sort of SNS, if you blog something
about breaking up with boy/girl friend use Y360. But blog something more
serious, work related, professional thinking, WP based is definitely a
better choice.
